1. NPR Shading Character
This character is inspired by a Halloween witch, for which I chose the classic black, white, red, and yellow color scheme. The use of color blocks creates a distinctive composition, enhancing the character's recognizability on a flat cartoon base.
In Substance Painter, I added textures such as patterns, gold trim, and contour lines, along with some shadows to ensure they remain unaffected by environmental light sources within the engine.
In Unreal Engine, I used the basic Material's 'if' node to adjust the colors of the highlighted and shadowed areas. I also applied an overlay material to give the character the outline effect seen in cartoons.

2. XGen & SSS Skin
This is my exploration with the XGen and Unreal Engine groom systems.
The inspiration was drawn from the retro Y2K hairstyles that have recently become prevalent in pop music. As this trend seeped into East Asia and melded with local culture, it transformed the traditional Heian period Japanese 'Hime' haircut, blending it with contemporary styles to become one of the hottest retro trends across Asia.
Based on this hairstyle, I concurrently developed a female model to practice creating realistic SSS materials.
The skin's detailed textures were acquired from Texture XYZ.

3. Substance Designer
I wanted to enhance the texture of the fabric for the costume of a character I created, as I had experimented with embroidery creation in Substance Designer.
I started by distinguishing the pattern areas in Photoshop using different colors, then imported this into Substance Designer. There, I extracted the alpha of these areas and added the embroidery textures on top of this base.
This is the result of my first experiment with these nodes.
This is my second attempt, drawing inspiration from the "Tiger," one of the traditional Chinese zodiac animals. The characters above the pattern mean "Good Fortune in the Year of the Tiger."
